Renowned London restaurant, Caravel, opens its doors and new web site

Renowned London restaurant, Caravel, opened its doors to the public at the start of the year, offering its customers a truly unique dining experience on a narrowboat in Regent’s Canal near Angel.

Initially part of thestudiokitchen.co.uk, also a web site designed and built by enotions, Caravel’s success made the Spiteri Brothers realise that the new restaurant needed a website of its own to reflect the unique bistro-style dining experience that it offered.

This is where enotions came into the picture. The requirement was simple; to create a clean, beautiful looking website that let the visual assets do the talking.

One thing that high-end and fine dining websites have in common is the notion that less is more; the more clutter and copy you put on a webpage the more noisy and unappealing it becomes.

Patrons only wish to see images of the restaurant and its surroundings as well as the food and drink offered, and an outline of pricing. This is why we made the sitemap as simple as having the homepage and menu, reservations, private dining and contact options.

The dining menu itself was as clean and simple as the website, with its elegant font and branding, and simple pricing structure.

Offering a booking facility on a website is now commonplace, and we opted for ‘Resy’, which is probably London’s most popular restaurant management and table reservation software. This allows a seamless integration between the app and the website.

It was important not to have any confusing or difficult steps in the reservation process as not only would users be deterred from booking for logistical reasons, but it would also portray the establishment as low-end and unprofessional.

Caravel’s private dining option is an exciting addition, as it offers customers the chance to book the venue for as little as £45 per head; a rare find in central London – not least of all in a narrowboat!

Again, it was important to make the booking process as transparent and straightforward as possible giving patrons the opportunity to select a date/time and outline their requirements.

We discussed the possibility of dining vouchers with Caravel, as this is also a feature that’s becoming popular for birthdays and special occasions.

Caravel were receptive to this idea, and the feature will be implemented on the website in the near future.
